ASME to Host Rose-Hulman Resume Workshop on September 21st - Wednesday, September 01, 2010

The ASME Central Indiana Section is hosting a resume workshop for students at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology on Tuesday, September 21st.  ASME membership is not required to attend this event.  Dinner will be provided for students and workshop volunteers.

The workshop will consist of a prepared presentation focused on addressing common resume mistakes, conducting a job search, and preparing for interviews.  A one-hour workshop will follow the presentation and provide an opportunity for students to work with industry leaders and recent graduates to refine their resumes.  Representatives from area recruiters will be on hand to conduct mock-interviews and provide additional tips.

In order to receive a resume critique, interested students are required to submit a resume to the ASME drop box by 2:00pm on Saturday, September 18th.  All submissions should be in MS-Word 2003 format and include the student's name in the file name.  When attending the resume workshop, students must have a laptop with internet access in order to retrieve critiqued resumes.  Follow this link to place a resume in the drop box.

Volunteers are needed to review resumes prior to the workshop and provide one-on-one mentoring during the event.  Please contact Ric Halvorson to express an interest in volunteering.

Follow-up workshops will be scheduled at IUPUI and Purdue University at a later date.

Volunteers Needed - Time to Invent Club - Thursday, May 20, 2010

Time to Invent Club: Volunteers Needed
Innovation and invention are cornerstones of American society, but not all young people have role models to open doors in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM).  To help meet this need, WGBH (Boston’s PBS station) and the Lemelson Foundation launched an exciting invention-based mentoring program called the Time to Invent Club in Boston and Indianapolis.  The program places young STEM professionals and college students in after-school sites once a week to co-lead an hour-long program. Working with a group of kids ages 10-12, the mentors use a stepped-out curriculum that inspires underserved youth to explore invention. We are currently looking for volunteers to serve as mentors for the fall 2010- spring 2011 program in Indianapolis and Lafayette.  If interested, please contact Liza Silverman: liza_silverman@wgbh.org or (617)-300-3642.
